Vaccination against PCV-2

PCVD is a multifactorial disease. It has been determined that the presence of PCV-2 is essential for the development of the disease syndrome. By vaccinating against PCV-2 diseases such as PWMS and PDNS can be controlled.

Vaccines

PCV-2 vaccines can be used in piglets and sows. Under field conditions vaccination of piglets at 3-4 weeks of age reduced mortality rates and resulted in better performance parameters compared to unvaccinated piglets. Maternal immunity was also shown to be protective as vaccination of sows resulted in effective protection of the piglets.

Vaccination with PCV-2 vaccines such as those based on inactivated virus or recombinant products expressing the capsid protein:produce clinical protection after a PCV2 challenge

  • reduce viremia
  • induce a strong antibody response.
  • reduce faecal and nasal shedding of the virus
